The immutable distro is the future[IT, other]
Posted 1 year ago
I've been running NixOS on my desktop and Silverblue on my laptop for the past two years and boy... Both feel leagues better than any other distro I've ever used. NixOS is virtually unbreakable. I've had it survive power outages while updating and it handled it like it was like nothing. Try some weird configuration and fuck up your system? ...

Hello,
I'm finally getting around to building the pet project of mine and have always enjoyed working in a group setting. Plus, I don't know everything and outside opinion is always appreciated.
The multi-project solution is going to consist of several api projects, unit test projects, a razor library, a maui library, a maui app, and a blazor app. Ideal ...
Appreciation of how good desktop Linux is in 2023[IT, other]
Posted 1 year ago
I feel like desktop Linux has gotten really good recently, and software needs aside, I do believe it's a serious contender to Windows and macOS in the desktop space more so than it has ever been. I've been using Linux on and off for the past 5/6 years, and for the first time I feel I've truly been able to stick ...
GenAI is being hijacked by non-technical staff at my company. What if, anything should we do?[IT, other]
Posted 1 year ago
Something really weird is happening across my company. We're a big enterprise with about 6000 employees. I'm a ML Engineer myself with 7yoe.
We have historically had a pretty good AI / ML footprint. We have about six teams working on bandits, NLP, and Recommenders. My own team has a guy with a PhD in ML working on some pretty cool stuff. ...

Hi all, I like my sre position, but i am realizing that as time go by and as it is very exhausting, i do not see myself doing that forever. Hence the title, going up the managerial ladder, first thought was engineering manager,as it regroups soft and hard skills that need a technical and broad understanding of the app ...
Our tech lead had to abstain from the project because of health issues. I'm offering 50% equity for a Python dev that can run this (infra is already in azure and we got startup hub credits,) It's a RAG project built on python using OpenAI API. We want to be the conversational layer to web systems. You can try out alpha ...

Awaiting approval x100000[IT, other]

Hi all,
With Azure DevOps, you have the choice of:
Classic Pipelines
Yaml Pipelines
Yaml seems to flow sequentially, unless interrupted with a pre/post condition such as an approval.
In our case, we typically have QA trigger a deployment manually when they want to test it.
With Yaml pipelines I can stop it from deploying to their environment by ...
Most effective job boards[IT, other]

I was let go as of this morning but I've had applications on a slow drip prior to this with responses around 10% of the time. Now that applications are going to be my full time job until another comes up, and I want to maximize my ROI. I've mainly stuck to LinkedIn and applying directly to companies I've interacted with ...
