Is it ok to just rely on users OS setting for dark/light mode instead of manual choice?[IT, other]

Im hoping to just use prefers-color-scheme when I implement light/dark mode, and not have to implement some mode chooser in the UI and cookies.....At least I do see in 99% of sites that do have light/dark mode, they rely on OS setting.
